Water and Weight Loss – HCG Diet

Do you want a great diet tip? Drink lots of water. Water is an absolute necessity. It’s essential for your health and, in fact, for your survival. Water is an integral part of all body functions and processes. It is crucial in digestion and elimination, and it also serves as a weight loss aid during the HCG diet by helping you limit your food intake.

Water can help with weight loss in countless ways.

  1. Water can suppress appetite

When you are hungry, the first thing that you want to do is to find food. Yet, eating may not be the answer. Sometimes thirst due to lack of water may often be mistaken for what most people call hunger. Drinking water can decrease your appetite if you are, in fact, low in the water and not calories. Not only water can suppress your appetite but it also promotes satiation because it passes through the system quickly.

  • Water can help boost your metabolism

Water helps stimulate your metabolism and energy expenditure. Drinking water seems to stimulate heat production in the body, particularly when it is cold. When this happens, your body needs to expend more energy to warm your body resulting in increased metabolism.

  • Water can make exercise easier and more efficient

Water is very important during exercise. Without sufficient water, your muscles become dehydrated. They break down protein more quickly and build muscles more slowly. Furthermore, your body loses fluids quickly that shunt away from the core, resulting in sweating.

  • Excretion of body waste

Water assists your body in eliminating waste from the kidney and bowel. It helps prevent constipation which is very common during the HCG diet. Aside from excretion, water assist your body in digestion and absorption of food nutrient. Even if you are on a very low-calorie diet, you will maintain the proper nutrition.

How Much Water Should You Drink in a Day?

Drinking enough water during the HCG Diet is very important because water provides hydration without unwanted calories. Besides not adding calories, drinking water also helps replace or avoid unnecessary calories found in food snacks, or extra servings at mealtimes. It may also help flush out wastes from the body during weight loss.

The recommended amount of water to consume each day is about 80 to 120 ounces. For dieters who weigh 190 pounds and above, the recommended amount of water is ½ of their body weight in ounces daily. Some dieters, naturally consume plenty of water, while others have to work at it.

I’m not too fond of plain water and drinking lemon water frequently makes my stomach acidic. Is there anything else I could try to meet my required fluid intake?

  • Jan Marie Luna

Hello Marilyn, you could try adding cucumber or strawberry slices to your water for flavor. Ginger and mint could also help add taste to your water. Another alternative is drinking green tea with flavored stevia – some enjoy vanilla- or chocolate-flavored stevia with their tea. You can choose whatever flavor suits your taste. =)
